My Bug List

1.         During Finals week, when I go to study at Library West, there are never any empty seats.

Why? Everyone wants to go to the library during Finals because it is quiet and everyone is working/concentrating and there not a lot of distractions.

2.         When I go out in Gainesville at night I have to get ready very early because places get packed around 8pm.

Why? Since many places are packed so early, people go out even earlier to avoid lines and going out times just get earlier and earlier.

3.         When my roommates wake up before me and make a lot of noise and it wakes me up.

Why? When my roommates wake up they do not realize other people are still sleeping and go about their morning routines without trying to decrease their noise levels.

4.         Buying milk and not being able to use it all because it expired.

Why?Milk comes in large jugs and expires very quickly so it is difficult for one person to finish all of the milk before it expires if they do not drink it very often.

5.         People using their phones while eating at a restaurant instead of talking.

Why? People have become addicted to checking and posting on social media that they cannot go a long time without using their phones.

6.         Having a class that uses ProctorU for exams and doing worse because there are so many technical difficulties.

Why?ProctorU is not very reliable because it can run into technical difficulties when many people are using it at once and can delay or erase exams.

7.         When cashiers only put one grocery item in a plastic bag and waste plastic.

Why? Many times cashiers get lazy and instead of carefully placing many items in a bag, they only put one and end up giving you way too many plastic bags.

8.         Having to stop in the middle of the street because someone is J walking.

Why?Some people get too lazy to wait at a red light or the light is too far away, so they cross in the middle of the street with incoming traffic.

9.         When people leave their trash on the ground instead of placing it in a trash can.

Why?Often times there are no nearby trash cans so people simply throw it on the floor/beach/water etc. because they are not willing to hold onto it until they see one.

10.   People that are rude to their waiters because of something they cannot control.

Why? Often times things go wrong in an order and people exert their anger on waiters because they are the ones who are serving them, even though they do not have much control over the situation.

11.   When students have headphones on during class.

Why?Instead of wanting to listen to the professor some students listen to music instead and do not respect the teacher and his lesson.

12.   People that charge others to pose with their exotic animals on busy tourist streets.

Why? Tourists are inclined to pay for pictures with anything out of the ordinary, so entertainers are able to make money exploiting animals.

13.   Calling somewhere and they have an answering machine that does not understand what you need.

Why?Many companies try to save money and time by having automated answering machines, but they are often times inefficient because they do not have all options.

14.   People who talk loudly on their phones.

Why? Some people basically scream while on the phone because they believe others cannot hear them if they do not talk loudly.

15.   Students that talk loudly in the quiet areas of the library.

Why? Many students do not respect the library noise levels and talk loudly because they are not aware others are bothered by their conversations.

16.   Getting to the airport way too early because you thought the lines would be longer.

Why?Airport waiting times are very unpredictable so it is hard to know when to leave to the airport without being too early or too late.

17.   Dog owners who don’t pick up their dogs poop in areas where others can step on it.

Why? Many dog owners get lazy or did not bring a bag so they do not pick it up.

18.   When people text while driving a vehicle

Why?Some cannot wait to get to their destination or a red light to check their phone and they do not think it’s a danger to themselves or others.

19.   People who never answer their phones but are constantly texting.

Why? Some of my friends are too lazy to speak on the phone or find it annoying so they rather text and prolong the conversation.

20.   Ordering take out and it being less food than if I would have dined in.

Why?There is a rush and different containers being used when you order take out and the quality and quantity can be different.

I found this assignment very difficult, it was hard for me to think of so many different things that bug me. I do not usually complain much so it took me a while to think about my usual daily routine and think of things that bother me. It was especially hard to answer the “why” question because I had to really think of the root of the problem instead of why it bothers me. But overall, it sort of introduced me to entrepreneurial thinking and every time I thought of a bug I would sort of try to find a solution for it.
