I interviewed
five people who “should” have the unmet need I have found (students without a
car not being able to get around quickly and efficiently) but actually do not.
I interviewed a girl that I knew matched my market pool because she is from
California and does not have a car on campus. But, she told me she had a
scooter and this let her get around very easily because everything in
Gainesville is so close. She scoots to class and to publix, where groceries fit
inside the small compartment in her scooter. Although she does not have a car
she has another mode of transportation that probably eliminates her from people
that would use my app. Another girl I interviewed had a similar situation, she
should fall into the people that would use my carpooling app, but I know she
uses her roomates cars because they let her borrow them whenever she needs to
go somewhere. People who are inside my boundary are people who have no way of
doing their simple everyday errands unless they uber or take a bus, these girls
are able to use another personal mode of transportation or borrow someone’s.
The next three people I interviewed
were people that fell outside the boundary based on the need for a ride from UF
back to one’s hometown hours away without a ride. My friend does not have a car
and does not use the Facebook rideboard but said she is always able to go with
her roommate because they have the same schedule. She also said she would not
feel uncomfortable riding with strangers.

Hi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI love this idea for students that need transportation. Especially in certain circumstances like when it is raining or otherwise, there are some specific times when students would really benefit from rides to class, to the store, or otherwise. Car pooling sounds like a great way to accomplish this. If you get a group of friends together, or classmates, you would feel safer and not so much like they are strangers.
