My Entrepreneurship Story

My family moved to Miami, Florida from Germany when I was eight years old because my dad got transferred here. My mom did not speak any English so it was very difficult for her to find a job and take English classes at the same time. My mom is an extremely passionate, creative, and driven person so she knew she wanted to start something she loved on her own. She decided to open her own jewelry business called “Mesoni Jewelry” standing for the first two letters of mine and my two sisters names. She makes all of her jewelry by herself and attends events and shows almost every weekend to sell her beautiful things. She runs all the social media accounts and even created a website. My mom now sells her jewelry in yoga studios throughout Miami and even gets orders from yoga instructors as far as California. I have helped all along the way, especially with marketing her things to younger girls and helping her set up an Instagram account. I loved helping my mom create her business, I translate and double check almost everything she sends out, and go to all of her events for support. She is my biggest inspiration and she really is an example to the world that you can overcome any barrier and achieve your goals if you are really passionate about them and willing to work for them.

I am taking this class mainly because it is one of the required electives for my business major. I am really excited to learn more about entrepreneurial thinking and also learn more about myself and what creative things I am able to come up with. I want to leave this class feeling more confident about my entrepreneurial skills since I think in today’s worlds its one of the most important assets.

  1. Hey, Nicole! I love hearing awesome entrepreneurship stories like this, and I think it's very special that you have gotten to see it all transpire and even be a part of the name. Learning a new language and changing your entire life is not easy, and it's so impressive how well your mom is doing now with her business. I'm sure that you have been able to pick up a ton of skills on the way, and having someone that close to you who is an entrepreneur is such an inspiration.

  2. Hey Nicole! I really enjoyed reading about your family's journey. I think that it is awesome that your mom started her own jewelry store, and did it while learning another language. She possesses essential qualities necessary to be a successful entrepreneur. It also is extremely beneficial to you to learn those qualities first handedly. My step-mom also has her own jewelry company and she sells her stuff at similar stores. Awesome post!

  3. Great post and sharing of your family background. I love the passion you have for your mom and her jewelry. It is truly a gift when we have people around us to help encourage us and who we trust to help run the business. I work with a lot of Disney artists and one way they engage their customers and get the excited about their original pieces is to share the making of them online via Facebook, Instagram, etc. The anticipation builds and they usually sell their originals before the event begins! Your marketing on Instagram was a great way to spread the word. Good luck with the jewelry business and your own venture.
